styriarte – Die steirischen Festspiele

Jedes Jahr hat das styriarte-Festival ein wechselndes Motto, unter dem es sein faszinierendes und spannendes Programm aus ca. 50 Veranstaltungen in Graz und in der Steiermark zusammesetzt.

2018 spielt die styriarte unter dem Thema „Felix Austria“. „Mögen andere Kriege führen, du, glückliches Österreich, heirate.“ Das alte Motto der Habsburger war wohl gelogen und dennoch eine schöne Utopie. Aber was bleibt von Felix Austria, vom glücklichen Österreich?

Die styriarte 2018 sucht klingende Antworten: Wir feiern kaiserliche Feste mit Fux, mit Gluck, mit Haydn, wir begeistern uns an Beethovens Musik gegen die Tyrannei, tanzen Ländler in Beisln und Redouten, wir ziehen uns erschöpft mit Schubert in die Privatheit zurück, machen uns auf in die Schönheit der Landschaft, ersetzen die untergegangene Monarchie durch den Aufbruch in die Freiheit von Kunst und Leben, und wir kommen schließlich, nach den dunkelsten Zeiten, in eine Republik, in der Felix Austria eine Lebensmittelmarke ist.

Ist vielleicht gerade das ein Glück? Und das zentrale Projekt? Fux.OPERNFEST – zum Auftakt des Festivals am 22., 23. und 25. Juni 2018

\“Felix Austria\“ – the happy Austria is in the centre of the styriarte festival 2018.

The styriarte sets out to find moments and opportunities of happiness throughout the ages and the Empire. We accompany Maria Theresa to a Rococo celebration and Emperor Leopold I to his second wedding at Schloss Eggenberg.

A baroque opera by the Styrian composer Johann Joseph Fux celebrates the Emperor’s happiness with his antique ancestor Julus Ascanius. Charles II and his daughters, Joseph II and Mozart, Archduke Rudolf IV and Beethoven – there is no lack of music among the Habsburgs. But with Napoleon’s troops, the earthquake shaking the world also reaches Austria: In raging sound storms, Schubert’s Mass in A flat major shakes the very foundations of piety.

Beethoven’s “Fidelio” provokes those in power, while during the Gründerzeit era, Strauss and Brahms dance on a volcano, and the fall of the monarchy allows Schoenberg, Webern and Berg the freedom to grow.
